Every spring and fall, the fire department takes part in the National CHANGE YOUR CLOCK CHANGE YOUR BATTERY campaign. We're able to get 9 Volt batteries free of charge through Energizer. Through references from the Department of Social Services, and advertising, the department checks and changes smoke detector batteries for senior citizens and disabled individuals. We are also able to get free smoke detectors through the Safety and Health Council which we provide and install for our seniors and disabled citizens as well.
The Firefighter’s Local 1015 has donated material to the “FIRE SAFETY CORNER” at Keene Memorial Library. This public education tool targets young children by making a variety of books and videos on fire safety available to them and their parents. Firefighters also read to children when requested.
Local 1015 continued to support the Fremont Booster Club, Bergan Booster Club, Big Brothers Big Sisters of Fremont, and Fremont’s Girls Softball Association. In 2009, the firefighters raised just over $1,000.00 for MDA.
