The number of emergency responses in 2009 saw a slight decline of approximately 3.5% from 2008.  We responded to 214 fire related calls and 1,933 emergency medical calls.  March was the most active month for both fire calls, with 25, and squad calls, with 190.  The Fremont Fire Department's average response time in town is approximately 3.82 minutes.  Response time is measured from the time we receive the call at the fire station, to the time our personnel arrive on the scene.  There were 195 instances during 2009 when off duty firefighters were called back to work for additional manpower.  Of those call backs, 16 were fire related and 179 were because of multiple medical emergency situations.  Reserve firefighters responded to roughly 12% of the call backs.

The estimated total dollar loss due to fires within the city was $474,750.00.  Eleven residential fires amounted to $386,150.00 in property loss.  Four fires in area businesses reflected a loss of $65,100.00, and eleven vehicle fires amounted to $23,500.00 in damages.  Combustible materials stored too close to a heat source and electrical malfunctions were the most frequent causes of fires.  Other causes of fires in 2009 were ash or smoking material, chimney creosote, equipment failure and fireworks.  there was one arson fire and eight were undertermined.  There were also a couple instances of unlawful burning (open burning of trash, leaves or brush).

There were no fire fatalities 2009. However, there were five civilian injuries due to fires and twelve firefighters were injured during fire and medical calls.  Firefighter injuries were minor (back, cut/laceration, leg and neck sprains/strains).  The civilian injuries included burns, illness due to odors and smoke inhalation.

In 2009, the fire department saw one resignation and one retirement.
