Thank you to everyone who has shared updates and concerns. We understand the frustration many of you are experiencing with cloudy or discolored water in several areas across Fremont. We are actively working on the situation and, as temperatures allow, we will continue system flushing to remove sediment and restore normal water quality.
Hydrant flushing is the quickest way to resolve the issue. Crews routinely flush the system during the warmer spring months, late at night when water use is low, to maintain optimal water quality. However, the current cold temperatures and daytime flushing schedule are creating additional challenges and may slow progress.
We also want to reassure residents the City continuously tests the water supply and that the system remains in compliance with state standards. There are no health hazards associated with the discoloration. The water remains safe. If you’re experiencing discolored water, you can try running your taps until the water clears. However, this may not be effective in areas where hydrants have not yet been flushed.
If you notice discolored water, consider avoiding washing clothes, especially whites, to prevent possible discoloration.
We appreciate your patience and will continue to work diligently to resolve the issue.
