Not only is Fremont’s water some of the least expensive in the state, it is also the best tasting water in Nebraska. At the American Water Works Association State Convention in Kearney last week, Fremont Department of Utilities won the best tasting water award. Fremont beat out six other municipalities, including last year’s winner – Lincoln – who went on to tie for third place at the National level.
Each competitor submitted a gallon of water in a glass container. The water was then tasted by attendees and local dignitaries who rated it on a one to nine scale taking into consideration taste, clarity, odor, etc. Fremont was by far the best tasting, easily winning the competition.
Through the hard work of many dedicated people, the wells were developed in local areas of high water quality.
Fremont is now eligible to compete for the national best tasting award in June at the national conference in Washington, D.C.
The award was announced at the Conference banquet with news coverage provided by Nebraska Educational Television (NET). Congratulations, Fremont Department of Utilities Water Department!
