For the third consecutive year, Fremont’s water was rated the best tasting at the Nebraska Section American Water Works Association (AWWA) annual conference.
Water supply systems from around the state were invited to submit a sample of their drinking water for the fourth annual Best Drinking Water in Nebraska taste test. Other submissions came from the municipal water supplies in Lincoln, Omaha (MUD), and Seward.
"It's just good water, with no iron and very little manganese," said Water Superintendent Larry Andreasen.
Fremont's drinking water comes from groundwater wells and is then treated with chlorine and fluoride. A polyphosphate is also added for manganese control.
Fremont submitted a sample in the “Best of the Best” taste test competition at the AWWA Annual Conference and Exposition (ACE) in Dallas in June 2012 and won 1st place. The city will now send a sample to the AWWA Annual Conference and Exposition (ACE) in Denver in June 2013.
