[ARCHIVED] Scammers targeting utility customers

The Fremont Department of Utilities is warning utility customers about a telephone collection scam. The caller identifies themselves as the Disconnection Department with the Fremont Department of Utilities or the Omaha Public Power District (OPPD) requesting cash payment of an overdue account. The caller threatens to shut off the electricity if the bill is not paid.

The Fremont Department of Utilities does not solicit utility bill payments over the telephone, and we do not take credit card payments over the telephone.

You may contact the Fremont Police Department at 402.727.2677 if you receive a telephone solicitation for a utility bill payment.
