Union Pacific has notified the Department of Public Works that the Fremont & Elkhorn Valley Railroad (FEVR) tracks crossing West Military Avenue and Linden Avenue near Pierce Street will be removed. Work at the West Military Avenue location will begin on the morning of Mon., Nov. 14 and is expected to require a one-day closure. Signage will be placed at Business Park Drive and also on Broad Street to inform drivers that Military is closed to through traffic Monday. Work at the Linden Avenue location will begin on the morning of Tues., Nov. 15, and is also expected to require a one-day closure.
“We appreciate Union Pacific’s efforts to improve these areas by removing the rough tracks,” said Brian Newton, Interim City Administrator. “The West Military Avenue crossing was closed in early October, but for work by Burlington Northern on their tracks. Different ownership prevented the coordination of work and a second closing could not be avoided.”
