Department of Utility customers are receiving calls from scammers claiming their power will be shut off unless they pay their bill with gift cards. THIS IS A SCAM. The Department of Utilities will NOT ask you to pay your bill with gift cards. The Department of Utilities will NOT ask you to pay your bill over the phone as they DO NOT accept payments over the phone.
Do not become a victim of this scam or other scams. If something doesn't seem right to you, hang up and call the company or business who claimed to be on the other end directly.
