[ARCHIVED] Fremont Transit Program Celebrates One Year of Service

Transit

Fremont Transit Program (FTP) gave its first ride September 7, 2023. Since then, FTP has provided 6,063 rides within Fremont. The top three ride destinations are for senior support services, medical appointments and shopping.

“It’s been amazing to watch this program take off,” said Angie Olson, Grant Coordinator for the City of Fremont. “We’ve got the fundamentals down and are looking to the future and program growth, including local match commitments like Dodge County’s to build on what we’ve established.”

After a presentation by the Fremont Area Transit Taskforce, the Dodge County Board of Supervisors approved financial support for the program during their August 7th meeting. The City of Fremont and Dodge County will share the local match for year two of the program, allowing FTP to continue service from October 2024 through September 2025.

The city/county partnership will allow FTP to expand its program. FTP will hire an additional full-time driver within the coming months. The program will also add a larger van to its fleet by next summer. This van will be able to accommodate ten riders or six riders and two wheelchairs.

“I’m excited to add to our fleet and provide more rides,” said Dakota Buesing, Transit Manger. “Right now, we get more calls for rides than we have room for. We get about 15-20 calls each week that we can’t accommodate. Another driver and larger van will really boost our service to the community.”

FTP service is open to anyone, and all vans are wheelchair accessible. FTP offers pick-up and drop off within a 2-mile radius of Fremont city limits. Fremont Transit Program operates 5 days a week, Monday through Friday between the hours of 8:30am and 4:00pm.

For more information or to schedule a ride, contact the FTP office at 402-459-2845. Information is also available on the city’s website at: https://fremontne.gov/984/Fremont-Transit-Program
